Merit scholarships for Class IX students

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Ministry of Human Resource Development has introduced a scheme for sanctioning merit scholarships for students studying in Class IX. As many as 7,008 scholarships have been sanctioned to Andhra Pradesh. Students will be selected on the basis of a written test to be held on Aug. 17.
Selected students will be given Rs.6,000 per annum as scholarship.
Only students of government, local bodies and private aided schools, whose parents’ annual income does not exceed Rs.50,000, are eligible to apply. SC/ST students can claim the scholarship if they get 50 per cent marks. Students of residential schools, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Kendriya Vidyalayas (Central Schools) and private unaided schools are not eligible.
Candidates belonging to SC/ST communities should take a DD for Rs.50 and others should pay Rs.100 towards examination fee.
The DD obtained from SBH or SBI should be payable to Secretary to Commissioner for Government Examinations, AP, Hyderabad. The test can be taken in Telugu, Hindi, Urdu or English medium only.
The application forms can be had from respective schools. The last date for payment of fee is July 14 and for submission of applications along with DDs to principals of respective schools is July 15.
