1. DEGREE COURSES FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED (HI)

NISH is starting three new degree courses for the hearing impaired students who have passed Plus Two.
Prospectus

B.Sc (Computer Science) (HI)
B.Sc (Fashion Technology) (HI)
Bachelor of Fine Arts (HI)

The courses which are the first of its kind in the state are affiliated to the University of Kerala. Applications are invited for admission to these courses in the academic year 2008-2009. Application Form and Propectus are common for all the three courses.
Application form and Prospectus can be had from The Director, National Institute of Speech & Hearing, Karimanal P O, Thiruvananthapuram 695 583 in person on payment of Rs 100/-. Those who would like to get the application form by post should enclose a Demand Draft for Rs 125/- drawn in favour of Director, NISH, Trivandrum payable at Trivandrum along with their request. The Application form may also be downloaded from this site.

Appication Forms duly filled in along with the required certicates should reach the Institute on or before July 28, 2008.

2. MASTER IN AUDIOLOGY AND SPEECH- LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY (MASLP)

NISH invites applications for admission to Master in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (MASLP) course for the year 2008-09. The duration of the course is 2 years. The course is recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) and is affiliated to the University of Kerala.
The minimum eligibility foir admission is Bachelor in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.
Application form and Prospectus can be had from The Director, National Institute of Speech & Hearing, Karimanal P O, Thiruvananthapuram 695 583 in person on payment of Rs 500/-. For SC/ST candidates the cost is Rs100/- only. Those who would like to get the application form by post should enclose a Demand Draft for Rs 550/- (Rs 150/- for SC/ST) drawn in favour of Director, NISH, Trivandrum payable at Trivandrum along with their request. The Application form may also be downloaded from this site.

Appication Forms duly filled in along with the required certicates should reach the Institute on or before August 6, 2008.

3. DIPLOMA IN TEACHING YOUNG HEARING IMPAIRED CHILDREN (DTYHI)Prospectus
NISH is conducting a one year Diploma in Teaching Young Hearing-Impaired Children (DTYHI) , an under graduate course recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). The main aim of the course is to generate qualified professionals for the Pre-school program.

COURSES OFFERED BY NISH
Degree Courses for the Hearing Impaired
Students with hearing impairment have no higher education facilities at present in the State. There are thirteen Special Schools in the State where around 600 hearing impaired students appear for SSLC and around 175 students appear for plus two/higher secondary examinations. The students who pass the higher secondary examination have no facility for higher education as there is no special degree program. The only option for them is to join the regular degree course which they are unable to successfully complete. It is an injustice to these students to force them undergo the regular curriculum having gone through a special curriculum right from primary school level to higher secondary level. They require degree courses the curriculum of which meets their unique educational needs.The Degree Courses for Hearing Impaired students is an attempt to provide stress free higher education facilities to hearing impaired students.

The courses offered are:
B.Sc (Computer Science)(HI) : 3 year course consisting of 6 semesters
B.Sc (fashion Technology)(HI) : 3 year course consisting of 6 semesters
Bachelor of Fine Arts (HI) : 4 year course consisting of 8 semesters

The courses are the first of its kind in the State and are affiliated to the Kerala University. The courses will provide

The curriculum and syllabus for the courses is thoughtfully prepared to suit the special language needs of the hearing impaired.The curriculum consists of theory and practical with more stress on practical.

Master in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (MASLP)
Admissions started

The Master in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (MASLP) is a post graduate level course affiliated to the University of Kerala and recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). The total number of seats is 10. Minimum educational requirement for admission to the course will be Bachelor in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP) from any recognised university with minimum pass percentage as required as per University norms.

Diploma in Teaching Young HI Children (DTYHI)

The Diploma in Teaching Young Hearing-Impaired Children (DTYHI) is an under graduate course introduced by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) from 2001. NISH has been approved as a recognised centre for the conduct of the course by RCI.The main aim of the course is to generate qualified professionals for the Pre-school program. The Pre-school program which is getting increased attention requires large number of qualified teachers. The successful candidates from the diploma course will be eligible to be appointed as Pre-school teachers. RCI will provide the certificate of registration.
