EAMCET counselling begins

The SFI activists, who included girls, gathered outside the Government Polytechnic College where the counselling was going on and raised slogans demanding reduction in the fee.
Later, they squatted on the National Highway (NH-5) and held up traffic for about 10 minutes. While Kancharapalem CI U. Ravi Prakash and his team removed the agitating male activists, the women constables had a tough time in dragging the girls aside.
Top option
Interestingly, all the top three rankers who took admission from Visakhapatnam centre opted for the ECE branch. Muppuri Raj Anup, who bagged the 31st rank, opted for AU College of Engineering. A student of Sri Mega Junior College in the city, he obtained 153 marks in EAMCET. His father M.V.S. Chandrasekhara Rao is the director of the same college. Chintada Narasimha Murthy, who secured the 39th rank, opted for the JNTU in Hyderabad.
He had done his Intermediate from Sri Chaitanya Junior College in the city. His father is a senior assistant in the Irrigation Department at Parvathipuram. D. Pushpalatha, who secured the 49th rank, also did her Intermediate for Sri Chaitanya Junior College. She opted for OU College of Engineering.
President of AP BC Sangham R. Krishnayya visited the counselling centre to see that the rule of reservation for BCs was being implemented properly.

Online applications for medical counselling
After taking a printout, the application will have to be signed by the candidate and the parent and submitted to the university by post or in person, along with a demand draft and other enclosures, by 6 p.m. on July 21.
Counselling for these courses is likely to begin on July 23 at five centres – Osmania University, Hyderabad; JNTU, Kukatpally; Andhra University, Visakhapatnam; Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati; and NTR-UHS, Vijayawada.
University Vice-Chancellor A.V. Krishnam Raju said at a press conference on Monday that the university had decided to adopt online method for MBBS and BDS together and separately for other courses.
He made it clear that the candidates intending to join these courses should have secured 50 per cent marks both in EAMCET and Intermediate.
Candidates belonging BC, SC and ST communities should have secured 40 per cent marks.
No change in seats
He said there would not be much difference in the total number of seats available for admission this year from last year.
The total number -- 4,100 in MBBS and 1,630 in BDS, of which the university would fill 3,175 and 1,073, respectively – were unlikely to change.
The Medical Council of India (MCI) had not yet accorded permission for the filling of 150 seats in GSL Medical College, Rajahmundry and 100 seats each in Shantiram Medical College, Nandyal and Konaseema Institute of Medical Sciences, Amalapuram.
However, permission was likely to come through for the filling of 150 seats each in the new Government Medical Colleges at Srikakulam and Adilabad and 100 seats in Government Dental College, Kadapa.

Andhra Pradesh State EAMCET 2008 Results will be announced on 24th May 2008 12.00 Noon IST
No candidate will be getting zero marks this year for Eamcet, the results of which will be announced on Saturday noon at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University. Thanks to the errors in the question paper drafted by ‘subject experts’ of JNTU, all the candidates of the engineering stream will be awarded 4 marks each.
Medical stream candidates, on the other hand, will get 5 marks for errors that crept into their question papers. “Correct answers of these questions have not been given in the options and therefore, candidates of the engineering stream will be awarded 4 marks and those in the medical stream will get 5 marks,” said Mr E. Saibaba Reddy, convenor of Eamcet.
Though Eamcet officials admitted only four errors in the engineering stream question paper on Tuesday, they confessed to one more error on Friday. Questions 24, 100, 134, 158 in engineering stream and questions 88, 98, 104, 107, 114 in medical stream have no correct options. Eamcet officials also decided to award 1 mark for question No. 40 in engineering stream, if the candidates marked 2 or 3 options, as both were correct. Regarding question No. 160 in medical stream, officials had said earlier that both the first or fourth options were correct. But they now say that only option 4 is correct.
The officials would release the ‘final key’ along with the results on Saturday Mar 24th
