Scholarships for students

HYDERABAD: Students studying in professional and university colleges (other than medicine) in the State and belonging to the 13 economically backward communities, as identified by the Commissioner of Collegiate Education, can apply for the award of fresh post-Matric scholarships for the year 2008-09.

The communities eligible for the scholarships are Ayyaraka, Kasikapidi, Patra, Gajula Balija, Nagaralu, Pondara, Kurakala, Quresh (Muslim butchers), Pala-ekari, Kapu, Balija, Telaga and Ontaries.

Students should belong to the above mentioned communities and incomes of their parents shouldn’t exceed Rs. 33,500 per annum for general courses and Rs. 44,500 per annum for professional/PG courses to be eligible for the scholarships, informed a release. Eligible students can submit filled-in application forms to regional joint directors of collegiate education concerned through the principals of respective colleges on or before November 30.
