Engineering students get expert tips

Hyderabad: Enlightening women students of engineering about latest technical developments, entrepreneurship and volunteerism marked the conclusion of the two-day Woman Student Congress 2008 held at Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University on Sunday. The event was organised by IEEE Hyderabad Section.
The event saw over 60-odd students benefit from key presentations given by experts from IT major IBM. The topics ranged from a technical session of “Green Computing- Innovation for Sustainability, importance of the service sector and its employment opportunities to and finally, Trends in Information Management.”
“Conserving energy through IT is what Green Computing is all about. Globally, the IT sector consumes about one to two per cent of electricity on a daily basis and this can be reduced through various means like building more efficient servers, making air conditioning more resourceful,” said Suparna Bhattacharya, Senior Technical Staff Member from IBM.
In addition to Green Computing, there was also emphasis on the service sector. “The needs of service sector are growing at a steady pace as the areas pertaining to it have not been adequately tapped. The demand for talent that the service sector is asking for is far more when compared to the IT sector,” said Uma G. Rao, GM, HR for IBM-India.
