Merit test set for Auguest

Hyderabad, July 5: Under a new scholarship scheme, nearly 7,008 students studying in Class IX will get a stipend of Rs 500 monthly till they complete Class XII. The central government-sponsored national means-cum-merit scholarship scheme will provide scholarships to children studying in government, zilla parishad, municipal and aided schools.
The selection will be based on a test to be conducted on August 17. Students who have secured 55 per cent marks in the Class VIII exams and whose parents earn less than Rs 1.5 lakh are eligible to sit for the exam. Students belonging to SCs and STs need 50 per cent marks to apply. Students can obtain the application forms from their schools or at DEO offices. The forms have to be returned by July 14.
