OU asks hostellers to vacate

Hyderabad June 19: Osmania University on Thursday asked students staying in hostels ‘A’ and ‘B’ to vacate it by June 21. It, however, decided to allow students of all other hostels to stay till the end of this month. The university has 10 hostels with 3,000 students. There are more than 800 students residing in the hostels A and B. Students have alleged that officials have cut off power and drinking water to these hostels. University authorities say they allowed the students to overstay for more than two months. Students should vacate the hostels as the rooms have to be repaired before the next batch of students come next month.
“We considered their request to allow them overstay in view of the competitive examinations. Now that all the examinations are over, they should vacate the rooms so that we can start repair work,” the chief warden, Prof. K.Venkatachalam, said. Students say they have many more competitive examinations ahead and once they vacate the hostels they have no place to stay in the city.
