Hyderabad June 12: A decision to hike the fee for all professional courses in the state including engineering, MBA and MCA will be delayed by one more week. This is because the admissions and fee regulation committee (AFRC) has failed to arrive at a consensus on the quantum of hike even after two days of deliberations with officials of the higher education department and managements of private colleges. While the committee wants to increase the fee on a par with the rise in inflation, the management of private colleges have sought the overall revision of fee structure. According to official sources, the AFRC has made it clear that it will not revise the overall fee structure but will only increase it it match the inflation rate.
The private colleges have also demanded to increase the seats in management quota from 20 per cent to 30 per cent. “The government will consider the issue of raising the management quota seats after consulting all the stakeholders,” said Mr R. Chenga Reddy, minister for higher and technical education. According to the officials, the AFRC feels that the outcome of raising management quota seats will be resolved by the government and till then and it will be in a position to take a final call on fee hike.
