Parents welcome CBSE syllabus

Hyderabad June 12: It was a dream come true for students, their parents and teachers in 6,500 government schools across the state as they welcomed English medium with CBSE syllabus in class VI on day one of the new academic year on Thursday. The state government’s initiative to strengthen 6,500 schools by introducing CBSE English medium and computer education simultaneously by spending Rs 1,000 crore annually under “Success” scheme over a period of six years is expected to benefit nearly 3 lakh students, particularly from poor and underprivileged sections.
“I never expected that one day my son would study in English medium that too in CBSE mode. Even my son is extremely happy that he is studying in CBSE mode on par with his counterparts in private schools. I would have never afforded the fee in private schools to provide CBSE education to my son, but for the good initiative of the government this has become a reality,” said Mr Mallayya Yadav, who runs a small tea stall in Musheerabad.
Even the teachers were zealous claiming that it has brought life to the fading government schools. “Under Success scheme, our schools will get a minimum of Rs 1 crore per annum. It will lead to the development of required infrastructure and will improve academic standards. With English medium and all the other facilities in place, we are sure to give private schools a run for their money,” said Mr A. Narasimha Rao, a teacher in government school in Secunderabad.
The government has made all the arrangements to provide CBSE textbooks to these students. “We have contacted NCERT for the purpose. We have already placed the order. Books will be available to the students by July 31,” Mr Damodara Raja Narasimha, the minister for school education, said. However, he said, that the department has made interim arrangements for these students. “We have decided to start classes in core topics of Maths, English, Science, Hindi and Telugu with state syllabus English medium books till CBSE books will be ready. Students will be allotted three extra periods per day in English in the first two months to make them comfortable with CBSE books,” the minister said.
