Osmania UNiversity plans hostel for foreigners

Hyderabad, June 18: Osmania University has decided to construct a separate hostel for foreign students. The proposed hostel will come up on the varsity’s land in Tarnaka, officials said. The university has received over 1,000 international applications from 57 countries this year. Most of these applications are from Afghanistan and Middle East countries.
Over the years, there has been an unprecedented increase in the number of foreign nationals wanting to do their graduation from the university. Many girl students have been requesting the university officials to provide hostel facilities to them. Considering the huge demand from foreign students, the university has decided to build an exclusive hostel. Construction is likely to begin within two months and will be ready for use by the next academic batch.
“We want to provide hostel facilities for foreign students at nominal charges. We have identified the plot after considering its proximity to hotels and public transport,” said Prof. T.L.N. Swamy, the director of OU foreign relations department. The university plans to build 500 rooms in the first phase which is expected to be ready by the next academic year. There will be separate hostels for girls and boys. It will initially build 300 rooms for boys and 200 rooms for girls. In addition to the hostel facilities, OU will provide library, internet facilities, indoor stadium and recreation rooms in these hostels.
