B.Ed colleges face HC flak

Hyderabad, June 28: It is a tough time for the private BEd colleges and particularly minority colleges. The management of these colleges are struggling to renew their recognition from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The AP High Court pointed out that most of the colleges are in the habit of violating the statutory admission rules framed under the Act.
The court was taken aback by the fact that the management has moved it at the eleventh hour when the admitted candidates have not been allowed to write examinations. The court is surprised that in spite of such violations how the recognition of such colleges have been renewed year after year in the past. A division bench comprising the Chief Justice A.R. Dave and Justice R. Subhash Reddy made these observation while allowing a batch of writ petitions filed by the private BEd college challenging the action of School Education department.
The authorities have not allowed students who were admitted under the 20 per cent management quota. The students who were admitted violating the ceiling fixed for the subject of social studies also face the same fate. The court observed, “We also direct that a copy of this order shall be sent to the NCTE, Southern Region, Bangalore, which will keep in mind the said proceedings. and the violations at the time of renewal of recognition”.
