VISAKHAPATNAM: Candidates from Telangana region bagged top ranks in four out of the five methodologies in the Education Common Entrance Test (EdCET) 2008, the results of which were released here on Saturday.
Minister for School Education C. Damodar Rajanarasimha released the list of ranks at a function organised at Andhra University.
Chakravadhanula S.R.L.N. Srinivasu of Hyderabad topped the mathematics methodology with 104 marks, K. Prasanna of Kamareddy was first in physical sciences with 107 marks, Devendla Anand Babu of Suddapally in Dichpalli mandal of Nizamabad bagged the first in biological sciences with 107 marks and Ettaboina Anil Kumar of Incherla of Mulugu mandal in Warangal topped in social studies with 107 marks.
English methodology
Allu Sridhara Rao of Kommadi near Visakhapatnam was the top ranker in English methodology, introduced this year in EdCET, with 109 marks, which also is the highest total achieved in any test.
The percentage of candidates who scored qualifying mark is 98.02 (92,900 out of 94,775 who appeared for the test). The number of candidates who appeared for the test this year was less than last year’s (94,775 compared to 1,21,798) but the percentage of the qualified candidates is much higher, 98.02 to 77.97 of last year.
A total of 43,750 male candidates (98.26 per cent) achieved the qualifying mark while 49,150 female candidates (97.81 per cent) were through.
Chairman of AP State Council of Higher Education K.C. Reddy said the counselling for admission into B.Ed., based on EdCET ranks, would be held in August. Vice-Chancellor B. Satyanarayana, Principal Secretary (school education) C.B.S. Venkata Ramana, Director (school education) and others were present.
