Online scholarship facility from today

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, will launch online transmission of tuition fee reimbursement and post-matric scholarships to minority students on Tuesday coinciding with the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad being observed as Minority Welfare Day.
An amount of Rs. 51.13 crore is being sanctioned towards scholarship covering 1.64 lakh students for the year 2008-09. An equal number of students will get tuition fee reimbursement of Rs. 120.13 crore.

“This is the first time that the scheme is going online”, said Mohd Ilyas Rizvi, vice-chairman and MD of A.P. State Minorities Finance Corporation Ltd. Speaking to presspersons here on Monday that the tuition fee reimbursement for students admitted under Category ‘A’ in professional courses would be transmitted to the bank account of the colleges while the scholarship amount would be transmitted to the bank account of students.

This facility was being extended to students whose parents’ annual income was less than Rs. 1 lakh.

Under the Government of India scheme, merit-cum-means-based scholarships would be given away to 867 students for professional courses and post-matric scholarships to 7,586 students for the year 2008-09. Under the pre-matric scholarship , an amount of Rs. 4.31 crore was sanctioned to 16,027 students The corporation planned to train 1,855 persons for various trades at a cost of Rs. 2.65 crore.
