National seminar on English

VIJAYAWADA: English teachers and research scholars from colleges and universities across the country will participate in a national seminar on “Reflective practice in English classroom” at Andhra Loyola College (ALC) on August 11 and 12.

Acharya Nagarjuna University Vice-Chancellor Y.R. Haragopal Reddy will inaugurate the seminar at 9.30 a.m. on August 11. ANU Registrar K. Viyyanna Rao will deliver the valedictory address the next day, principal S. Emmanuel and seminar convener P. Ramanujam said. The department of English of ALC and the Loyola ELT Resource Centre are jointly conducting the seminar.

Resource persons

M.L. Tickoo, former head of Specialists Department at Regional Language Centre (RELC), Singapore, will deliver the keynote address. British Council’s former English studies officer V. Robert Bellarmine and a few professors from English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, will be among resource persons. The seminar would address the growing concern about the quality of English classroom teaching. The objective was to find more effective ways of enhancing professional competence.
