However, due to lack of dedicated training institutes, fitness industry is facing a severe crunch of trained manpower.
Even though many private firms including Nike and Reebok have forayed into fitness training, such courses are of short-duration aimed at specialization.
To provide a holistic fitness education, University of Hyderabad (UoH) started the Centre for Physical Fitness and Sports Sciences (CPFSS) to offer courses in health fitness.
CPFSS has launched PG Diploma in Health Fitness and Life Style Management, a one-year fully residential course.

The students also have to study allied sciences such anatomy, physiology, sports medicine and kinesiology.
“Most of the trainers lack scientific knowledge of the trade and depend on their personal experience or tips from seniors,” said Dr. K.V. Rajasekhar, Assistant Director of Physical Education and the Course Coordinator.
The course has 30 seats and graduate from any stream with 50 per cent marks are eligible to apply.
The SC and ST reservation is applicable in seat allocation. The tuition fee is Rs. 19,000 for two semesters.
“Our students will be placed as fitness consultants, trainers or they can set up their own centres with help from the university,” says Mr. Rajasekhar.
The last date for submission of application forms is August 18.
