BRAOU to raise standards of distance education courses

VIJAYAWADA: O.R. Reddy, the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), has asserted that better standards would be ensured in the distance education courses so that the candidates, pursuing distance education could enjoy similar standards with those from regular streams.

Dr. Reddy was addressing a meeting of the principals, coordinators and counsellors of the regional coordination centre of BRAOU, located at SRR and CVR Government Degree College here on Sunday. Centre Coordinator Ch.C. Prasad, assistant coordinator A. Dakshina Murthy and others were present.

Explaining the wide scope for various courses, Dr. O.R. Reddy said that every effort was being made to see that the academic programmes offered by BRAOU were in no way inferior to those courses pursued by students under regular and conventional universities across the country.
He pointed out that a vast majority of candidates, who studied distance education courses, drew immense benefits in terms of enhancement of their career and employment possibilities.

The speakers pointed out that BRAOU had been in the forefront of providing a large number of opportunities for aspiring candidates to pursue higher education. The performance and results of candidates, who took courses from the local coordination centre, witnessed a sizeable improvement compared to previous year. It was all because of the efforts and care taken by the counsellors and coordinators in meeting the requirements of enrolled candidates.

New course

From this year, BRAOU is introducing a distance education course in the much sought-after B.Ed course. But the aspiring candidates will have to provide proof of having served two years of teaching in specified courses.

The admissions will be given based on the results in an entrance examination.

The BRAOU officials said that only through career-centric novel courses, the distance education method can be taken closer to candidates and give a broader base to these programmes.
