AP State Government Issued an Order introducing CBSE syllabus

Hyderabad, June 10: The state government on Tuesday issued an order introducing CBSE syllabus and the use of English as a medium of teaching in more than 6500 high schools. According to the GO issued by the school education department, the CBSE syllabus will be introduced from Class VI starting this academic year.
The order stated that the move was taken to ensure that students from rural schools are on a par with their counterparts studying in private English medium schools. The decision to introduce English as a mode of communication was part of state plans since 2006. However, the decision to introduce the CBSE syllabus has been opposed by many teachers’ unions and student organisations. AP United Teachers’ Federation (UTF) and AP Teachers’ Federation (APTF) have expressed their displeasure over the order.
"We are happy that the government is introducing English as a medium of teaching in the schools. The move will surely help the rural poor. But we oppose the introduction of CBSE syllabus in rural schools," Mr I. Venkateshwara Rao, the president of AP United Teachers’ Federation, said. English medium sections in government schools were introduced in Chitoor, East Godavari and Kurnool districts earlier. The government said English medium schools with CBSE syllabus will benefit the rural poor and the backward classes.
