New IIITs caught in legal web

Hyderabad June 9: The admission process for three new IIITs, which are slated to function from August 4, has turned out to be a nightmare for ‘merit’ students of SSC. Several students, who secured ‘merit marks’ in SSC, were shocked to find that their names are missing from the ‘merit list’ released by officials of IIIT, while, at the same time, names of students who scored comparatively less found place in the list.
Complaints from students on errors in ‘merit list’ are pouring in from several districts. Adding to their woes is the fact that there is no redress mechanism at the district-level to lodge complaints against the errors. The students and parents are forced to make rounds to offices of district collectors, DEOs and RDOs, but in vain. But these officials are themselves unaware of ‘merit list’ and IIIT admissions. While the DEOs were busy with conferences in Hyderabad for the past three days, the students were left in the lurch as no official was available to guide them.
