Setting aside all doubts over the functioning of IIT-Medak from the coming academic year, the Centre has included the seats of IIT-Medak in the admissions list for this year. The new IIT in Medak will have 150 seats in three streams of engineering against the 120 seats planned earlier. The three streams are civil or mechanical engineering, computer Science engineering and Electrical engineering with 50 seats in each stream. In a related development, the union defence ministry, has accorded permission to IIT-Medak to utilise facilities in Ordnance Factory in Medak district to run classes temporarily.
"Classes will begin in July along with other IITs. The seats in IIT-Medak have already been included in the admissions list for this year," said Mr K. C. Reddy, chairman, A.P State Council of Higher Education.
